On Sunday, I had the fun opportunity to have a Mom's Afternoon Out and play with fellow mom's and the Nintendo Wii at the house of the fab CityMama.
Props to Nintendo for marketing to mommies and our control of the discretionary income. I don't plan on buying a Wii (sorry, my kid is too young and we have enough distractions), but I'm so pleased to see a company reach out to mothers in a fun, interactive way. I think it is a brilliant marketing strategy and was happy to see it first hand.
My official opinion about video games and kids has yet to be formed, but I will say that I liked what I saw in terms of family-centric games. On more than one occasion, I thought that Darius would get a kick out of it. As a working mom, I really limit the TV/Entertainment/Media in our house. I want to spend time with my kid when I'm with him. Not plop him in front of a game or TV show. And what I liked about the Wii is that we would still interact. You can sit on your butt and play these games. It requires you to be active - not as active as actually playing the real sport, but way more than your typical video game.
Since our lovely Stefania received a Wii courtesy of hosting the event, I figure I can test drive some of those games again before making up my mind. Yes, CityMama, I think I just invited myself over *cough cough*
