The alarm went off at 6:30 this morning. As soon as Darius heard me turn on the shower, he bolted out of bed and ran to me.
"Is it FINALLY my first day of school?!?!"
The excitement on his face was bigger than Christmas morning. Or his birthday. Or finding out we were going to Disneyland.
Praying that his love for learning holds steadfast through this entire year
He brushed his teeth, put on his new school uniform, squealed at his new shoes and was ready for breakfast in about 8 minutes.
Hoping that every morning is as smooth as this one
He ate a big bowl of Cheerios and instructed me on what to put in his lunch. A juice box, a go-gurt, salami/cheese/crackers, peaches.
Loving that I packed the fridge with lots of healthy options for my growing boy
We took a picture or twenty of our darling boy going off to Kindergarten. We left the house early, parked a block away and walked into his new school for the very first time.
We said hello to his new teacher. We lingered. We said our good-byes. He refused to give me a kiss in front of his soon-to-be new friends.
Holding back tears and butterflies of my own
I took a deep breath and walked away. He turned to run on the playground. And never looked back.
He was ready for today. His first day of kindergarten.
